Want to live and work in US but what are my options?

Post Thu Aug 10, 2006 10:24 pm

Hello,

Apparently, as a son and grandson of U.S. citizens I'm relegated to some 'first choice immigrant visa based on immediate relative' gimmick that takes years to process. I'm really having a hard time believing that a Canadian citizen can't move to the U.S. for work unless they've got a degree in something listed as a 'TN Profession,' or get married. I don't have a college degree so what are my options? I assumed, seeing as how Canada BOARDERS the country and all, that immigration laws for Canadians in particular were relatively inoffensive. I didn't realize Canada's lumped in the same category as, say, Australia when it comes to moving into a nation we're neighbors with.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

If you do not qualify for TN, then you may try to get student visa which will help get OPT/H1B category which allows you to work for up to 6 years within which you may complete green card formalities.
