Want to visit the US

Post Sat May 01, 2004 5:43 pm

Simple question, but I don't know the answer.

I want to vist the US just for a day or a few days. What documents do I need for myself, my wife and my son, he is 12.
I have a Canadian citizenship card and an old (original) German birth certificate. Do I need both or can I just use the citizenship card?

My wife has a canadian birth certificate.

My son has a birth registration but not a certificate. Its taking forever for it to arrive. We requested it last year.

Will this be enough?

Thanks.

Where are you travelling from? Canada? Will you be driving across the boarder, or flying...either way, I have done both and have needed only my drivers licence and birth certificate. Call ahead to the boarder crossing and ask...but usually you need two pieces of ID, one BCert and one DL.

Driving across, Windsor Detroit.

Does my son need a Birth cert? and do I need my original german birth certificate (its pretty worn out and all in german)? or would my citizenship card ad DL be enough?

Your son needs his BC. Your DL and citizencard are fine, you dont need you German ID if you are a Canadian citizen or a passport if you have it. I travel to the states often and just use my BC.

OK thanks, so I assume his birth registration is not good enough. We were planning on going across this year to visit the zoo, and museum.

Wish they would hurry and send his BC.

Thanks.

Registration could be enough especially if it is certified...I"d call the crossing or immegration to ask...Good luck!
