Wanting to permanently move to OZ - what Visa / process?

Post Sat Jan 02, 2010 7:12 pm

Hi all,

If you can help us it would be greatly appreciated.

My gf and I are planning on moving to Australia. We both know we want to live there permanently.

What would be the best path for us to take in terms of getting our visas and our permanent residency?

I've looked at the department of immigration for OZ and it seems there are a bunch of different ways - some more expensive than others.

We're both Canadian. I'm under 30 so I know that factors into some of the paths you can take. I work as an accountant so I think that can help me in the work aspect. My gf is a manager in retail. We want to live near Brisbane on the gold coast. We're both also bartenders and wouldn't mind working at a bar for a while.

Thanks mates!

Cheers,

Accountants may qualify as a profession under the skilled migrant program. If it is, and accountant is also on the CSL (critical skills list), then you're set. (but there'd be lots of paperwork and the accreditation process by the appropriate Australian professional body to get through).

I met my husband in Brisbane and he's American (I'm Canadian - and Australian now..)- we started the process for PR in 2005 and just got our citizenship in September this year. I went through with skilled migration as my occupation was on the list and my husband got in through my application - I was already sponsored at the time with a university here and he could work on my visa - the skilled migration app got him a bridging visa so he could work wherever he wanted but I had to stay with the same employer until the PR was approved - then I was free to work anywhere I wanted.
I'm far from an accountant so can't comment on that process though.
Good luck!
