Wanting to work in the US post graduation (questions)

Post Fri Apr 16, 2010 7:11 am

Hi all,

I'm sure you get these type of questions a lot, and I've read through the forum and have been trying to gather some information...

I'm a Canadian citizen -I have a BA in Political Science (University of Calgary) and am doing my MBA (University of New Brunswick). I am graduating in October 2010 and my ultimate end goal (for quite a few years) has been to work in the US.

That being said, I do realize it is easier said than done, but realistically, what are my chances of finding employment with that kind of educational background? In regards to the TN1 Visa, the only thing I think I would fit under is Management Consultant (vague, but is something I have been wanting to pursue). I understand it is also one of the most scrutinized at the border.

Alternatively, what are the chances of a US company hiring me for something that doesn't fit under any of those categories? What type of visa would be required for that?

Thanks in advance.

You won't get TN with Poli Sci -- forget MC, so you will need H1-B.

Presuming you are in F1, you can do one year in OPT status; this will encourgae someone to sponsor your H1.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.

F1 would be if I'm attending school in the US right? Unfortunately, I'm attending grad school in Canada..

Will my MBA help with the job prospects/hunt in the USA??

Thanks again.

Yeah F1 is for US (forgot NB was still in canada :) ).

Sure MBA will help, but you still need to land a job, and get them to sponsor you for H1.
