Wants to work and live in the United States

Hi all,

I found your forum through a Google search, and was wondering if any of you had insight into my problem.

I'm a graphic designer with two years experience. I've recently been laid off, and the job market is tough. I know in order to qualify for a TN Visa I must have 3 years of experience.

That being said, I desperately want to live and work in New York. My boyfriend lives on Long Island and I also have family there.

Since I've been laid off, I've been considering looking for work in New York. if someone will have me. The problem is, I don't know how to approach potential employers without them thinking I'm strange, applying for a job in New York from Toronto, Canada.

I'm not even sure where to start. I know the economy is hurting, but despite that fact, I *really* want employers to consider me.

Does anyone have any advice on how to approach our brethren employers in the United States? Will they think I'm crazy? Is there any other way for me to work for an American employer without the use of a TN Visa?

Thank you in advance for any replies!

You can't legally work in the US without some sort of work authorized visa. Whichever that is will depend on your qualifications and if you can find an employer willing to sponsor you.

Another option is to have your boyfriend sponsor you for a fiance visa and you get married. But if marriage is not in your plans, a work visa is it.

I honestly have no idea if graphics designer is on the list of TN approved jobs.
