I'm 21 and a professional poker player in Canada - we have sort of a gray zone when it comes to taxes - so instead of not being sure I decided to make the move to europe with a friend. He has a EU passport and we are looking at Malta but the steps seem complicated and virtually impossible for me to aquire foreign residency there without a EU-passport.

I'm looking for european countries that have easy steps when it comes to residency for Canadians. and somewhere nice. Cost of living isn't that important I just want somewhere where english/french are fluent.

Thanks,

Jason

England is your best bet. Canada is commonwealth, so Canadians can stay in England without many questions asked. And, obviously, everybody speaks english. Wink

The UK has a working-holiday maker visa available to Commonwealth citizens under age 30 I think it is now. It allows you to stay in the UK for up to 2 years.

Isle of Man. Immigration is similar to the UK but the taxes are way lower. If you just want to live there and all your games are elsewhere, it would be even easier as there's nothing they like more than high earners who don't have jobs on the island.

Jason,

Do you have any immediate family members from anywhere within the EU? ie: parents, grandparents? If so, you can always apply for citizenship through them normally. May vary from country to country within the EU.

Myself, although Canadian born. I hold citizenship with Ireland along with citizenship with Great Britian and Northern Ireland. Ireland also allowed my wife to apply for citizenship, eventhough her only link to Ireland is me. My parents are from Northern Ireland.

Good luck! Look forward to seeing you at a final table facing off with Daniel Negreanu.
