Welcome Canucks

Post Tue May 23, 2006 6:40 am

Firstly, kudos to Mr. Admin for arranging this new forum section, let's hope we can all gain some knowledge here.

About me:
- Spent some time in the military
- I've been in BDA since Nov. '05
- Work in the IT dept. of a international offshore law firm
- Currently on a 3 year work visa
- Do volunteer work for the CDN's in BDA website
- Am active & love sports
- Am sociable & love beer 8)
- Am a Simpsons' freak & naturally have a warped sense of humour (which most CDN's do)
- Am typing this from work right now

Some Bermuda facts:
- Located 600 miles off the N. Carolina shore (closest land mass)
- Not an independent country, it's a British colony
- 21 sq. miles of land, 65,000 people . . . priceless!
- Rumour has it that there are nearly 4000 Canucks here
- BDA immigration states that ex-pats are only allowed to stay a maximum of 6 years (yes there are exceptions to the rule)
- Classified as a sub-tropical island, & (along with location) not considered part of the Caribbean
- & oh yeah, very expensive to live here

If you have any questions that I can help with, just ask ~ I'll try my best to answer, otherwise just have fun kids.

Ciao for now.

Hiya- just having a look-see.
Actually I am at 98 posts and I am trying to get over 100!

Sadly this forum is the closest I am likely to get to Bermuda, so from gloomy old England, I shall pretend I am in the Bermuda sun! 8)

Hey Bermuda!

My wife and I are heading to the Dominican for a couple of years to teach in Santo Domingo. We were in the Middle East (UAE) for a couple of years and are now heading south. You said Bermuda was expensive, and that you are not considered part of the Caribbean, I understand that geographically. I have had some contact with other expats in DR, but wonder if you have an opinion of Santo Domingo. We have spent a year back in Canada to keep our seniority with our School District, but really miss the warm weather.

Cheers,
Cbenn

Hi Cbenn,
Sorry I can't give meaningful advice on DR, I've never been.
But I can promise you one thing, there's no way on earth it can be more expensive than here ~ specially in the housing market.

I was once told that BDA is 2nd in standard of living (price wise) next to UAE.
But remember I am no pro on the subject.

I bet the weather's nicer though . . . 8)

Enjoy,
W.
