What Can I Do?

Post Wed Jan 07, 2009 7:35 pm

I lost my job just a few days ago and my TN visa has been changed to B-1 (visitor visa). Now, I need to go back to Cnanada and rent apartment/house then I come back to US to ship my belongings to Canada. However, they warned me that I'll encounter serious problems to come back to USA to get my affairs wrapped up. I have no family member or relatives/friends in Canada or in the USA.

Questions:
1- Did any one go through this before?
2- Is it true that I may encounter these problems?
3- Any suggestion?

Thank you all.

You'll only encounter problems to re-enter the US if you give them any indication that you're trying to come and stay and/or find another job.

If you go back to Canada and get yourself an apartment and another job there, then go back to the US for your stuff, you shouldn't have a problem.

Thanks Reba.
How can I find a job at this time and in a very short time. I only want to go to Canada to rent apt/house and come back to US to load my house effects and leave USA right away, possibly in the same day, because I can not afford paying rent for two places.

I can't see why it would be a problem, people go down to the US to empty their vacation homes etc. all the time.

The only time it becomes a problem really is if you've already been in the US for six months in the current year, which is obviously impossible.

If for some reason they give you aggravation, ask them for an I-94 and tell them it's okay to limit it to a few days because you just want to fetch your stuff.

When you bring your stuff back you need to present completed CBSA forms B4 and B4A listing your personal effects to CBSA so they can enter duty-free.

Thanks Steve.

What do I have to do in order to drive my Canadian car back to Canada? This car was purchased in Canada and when I moved to USA I registred it here in the US.
Thanks

It's more complicated to import a car into Canada than into the US, have a read of www.riv.ca - however if it's Canadian-spec it's straightforward because obviously it's approved for use in Canada so that makes the paperwork simpler.

I think you did not read my post carefuly. The car is Canadian and was purchased in Canada, was also registered in Canada for two years then brought it up with me to the US and got US title. Since I decided to go back to Canada then I will take it with me.

I don't think you read my reply carefully! If you imported it into the US then it's a US vehicle, but it's still Canadian-spec so it should be relatively easy to import into Canada because it's obviously in compliance with Canadian law. Like I said, have a look at www.riv.ca
