Yeah I know. I just found out about the biometrics myself when I first joined this site last weak. I basically had a freakout. >.>

I live in Calgary as well, but I'm not applying for my visa until the last week of February, at which time I'll make my appointment for the biometric test in Edmonton. I'm not sure WHY one has to go to Edmonton and not just any police station, but apparently they do. If only the high speed train was already built. >.>

Could he not get a ride from his parents? They could make a day trip out of it. Go to the mall and the water park and stuff.

He doesnt get on well with his parents since the day he said he was coming to England. kinda my fault i guess :(

Theyve pulled out every stop they can to stop him getting things done! I thought this biometrics thing was yet to be introduced to the UK? Certainly been nothing mentioned about it on the news over here!

[Edit]
Found a thing on a gvt. website, had a list of countries included in it, and canada wasnt on it.

Alas i cant post links yet!

I'm aware. I was already linked to that site. Gimme a mo', and I'll find the site that definately gives the impression it is indeed here.

Found it:
visainfoservices. com/
visainfoservices. com/en_CA/appointment/selectFacility.html

Make sure you add all the appropriate beginnings to these two sites.

What you might end up with (for your boyfriend, rather) is that he gets a phone call saying that he has to book his biometrics appointment, so you should be ready for it just in case.

Hey just got back from my biometrics appointment, it's really not a big deal but the reason they have everyone go to the centers is control methinks. They have specialized equiptment for taking the finger prints. For instance they took scans of my fingers and a digital scan of my face to include with my application.

They also took my whole visa application and sealed it in an envelope and warned me that if the seal on the envelope was broken it before it reached the embassy it would invalidate my application.

The scans etc, I think are just to make you more identifiable once you've entered the country. As for the envelope it's to verify you have the correct information, and to ensure that the information that is verified at the VAC office is not tampered with once you've concluded your appointment.

It's not really a big deal except that they only have offices in major city centers. ( I had to go to vancouver ).

It's a relatively new process which was only implimented in December so there's been alot of confusion about it. The US is talking about implimenting something similar but who knows when they'll get around to it.
