What do you guys think of california?

I've been living here for 3 years. San Francisco area actually. What do you (Canadians) think of it? Too expensive? Where is the best place in the US to work in terms of nice overall weather, liberal politics, stuff to do, hot guys etc..

Well if those are your primary criteria, logically the answer is Puerto Rico.

Which will I reckon be a State by 2011.

I lived in LA for a couple of years and thought it was too expensive and crowded for my tastes. It was great having so many things close by, and having the beach nearby but that wasn't enough to keep me there.

When I took a new call to South Carolina I was happy to leave many things behind, but very sad to leave my friends behind.

One thing I did find weird was summer type weather year-round. I like seasons, not -40c but seasons.

South Carolina is good overall but way too conservative for my tastes.

And given the subject of California, the answer is I can't stand the place, although in fairness I've never been to San Francisco.

The only thing I've ever really noticed about California that I thought was good is that their public school system seems to be a lot better than in most other States.

There are just too many people who live there who are obsessed with money for me to like it and the traffic on I-5 is biblically bad. In fact I drove from Riverside to Las Vegas once on I-15 and it was nose-to-tail traffic the whole way, I couldn't believe it. Add in earthquakes, wildfires, mudslides, etc. and I'd rather live somewhere else. Plus they have lots of whacky laws that get up my nose.

If you're going to live out west pick somewhere that's not as annoying, like Boise or Flagstaff.

What do i think of california...only been here a few months and my first impression is it is a little overated!! I love the weather, but not sure that is a fair exchange for the cost of living here....Hubby and i sold our house and left everything my job..to follow his...and are finding it costly for the most part eating up all our savings, especially the health care...we have an international plan...paying up front SUCKS...Currently reside in East BAy area...and because of his work i am house bound...only one car right now...Kids having trouble adjusting to school....very ridgid standards it seems!!! Anyway...any thoughts??

The school does take some getting used to but it does seem to be pretty good going by what my relatives have gone through. But the cost of living in California is pretty high especially around San Francisco which is one of the reasons I personally wouldn't move there.

California is definitely a best place to live I but Texas and NY also give you same opportunities to progress as well as to enjoy your life. Living conditions all over are good but as far as job opportunities are concerned, I rank Texas better than California.

Probably, you are feeling financial stresses on every front because of being bounded by family responsibilities. I suggest you to start some ‘work from home’ type business that needs no start up finance. Online tutoring and working as luxury travel consultant are popular among the people, who want to earn being at home. It's not worth it. If you're single and young and willing to live on the beach in a cheap abode it's not bad. If you're married and a spouse can't work, forget it. Apparently they are also the only state that taxes RRSPs which is currently making me hate it even more.
