What do you miss?

Post Mon Jan 17, 2005 12:50 pm

So my ticket is booked, there's no turning back, I arrive in London on April 2nd and I am so excited. But I was wondering, I know there's been a couple topics along the same lines, but what do you miss about Canada now that you live in London?

Be it, food, specific stores, sayings, attitudes, weather, anything? I'm curious.

I heard there's no Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Gasp... ;) Going to have to get care packages sent my way.

Good luck on your move.
Lots of us don't actually live in London or anywhere near it though!
I am in Scotland and you can get Reeses stuff here and I know you can get it in England as well.
There isn't too much that I miss really. I've been away for 10 years. The things that I do crave every now and then are mostly food items like street vendor hotdogs or any descent hotdogs for that matter. I occasionally miss some sweets like Coffee Crisps but they are available at http://www.cybercandy.co.uk/aaasmt/ for a price mind you. But hey if you need a Coffee crisp what can you do! They also have a shop in London now.
I guess I do miss the change of the leaves in the fall. You get that a bit here but not as dramatic at all.

Missing

Post Mon Jan 17, 2005 11:53 pm

Given the fall of snow we've just had in Scotland I would have to say, I miss snow tires and the caution people with only summer tire use when driving in the snow.

I can see why BEAR Scotland (the traffic people) just close roads rather than plow them. It makes them safer by keeping the drivers off them.

When I saw the snow falling at school yesterday, I said "oh no, snow."

One of my work colleagues replied "You're from Canada, you're used to it!"

I responded "Yes, I'm used to snow, it's the other people on the motorway that worry me."

That's true Brenda. I always think it's funny when a place shuts down and everyone doesn't know what to do because of a bit of snow!
Looks like it's almost all melted now though. Snow is one thing I definitely don't miss!

What do I miss? It would be a shorter list to write what I don't miss but still, here I go.

Stores:
I miss little Katys-local shop in Elora
I miss Friends in our Kitchen-restaurant in Guelph.
Food/Drink:
I miss:
Maple Syrup
Sleemans ale and Moosehead lager
Squash
Pumpkin pie
butter rum flavoured live savers

Weather:
Snowy winters
Hot summers cooling off by a lake
Fall when the air is crisp and the leaves change.

People:
Friends and family
I miss the neighbourly additude of Canada-after 7 years I barley know my neighbours, I find the English can be cold and anti social-although I know many nice ones.I am sure you'll make friends in London.

I miss the wide open space of Canada and street vendor hot dogs.

I miss Tim Hortons! What I wouldn't do for an apple fritter!!!

I've been in London for 4 years now. It was hard at first, cause of the little things that are different here. But now I'm use to how things work and I love it here. I mostly miss my family and friends. You can buy most things Canadian on line or in some shops in London. ie Canada Shop or Cyber Candy. However, also in London, you can get about anything from anywhere. It's very multi cultural and something always new to experance. That's what I love about it.

Another thing I do miss is Canadain and US television. We get only some of the programs from North America, about a year after they air in the US. There isn't much on UK TV unless your into soap operas or reality TV.

Tim Hortons-I really miss that too.
Also I agree that UK TV hasn't been that good since the 1980s unless as you said you enjoy Soaps or reality TV.
For any Air Farce fans you can watch every episode on www.airfarce.com

I live in the US so I'm not sure if this company ships to UK, but you might want to have a look at http://canadianfavourites.com/store/index.html

they even have Tim Horton's coffee!
