Hi Everyone!

What does 'full birth certificate' mean? I have a feeling this means I can't get away with providing my birth certificate card, and need a full-sized 8.5x11 of my birth certificate.

Thanks!

It means your 'full form' birth certificate. It'll have your mum and dad's full names, as well as a few other details not on the little birth certificate that some people get as proof of ID.

Mine is 8.4x11", but my mums is the size of a card. So it varies. I think it also depends what province you get it from.

Thanks Tigerlea!

My mom dug out a large copy but it doesn't have their names on it, so I guess I will be applying for a new copy. Oh well, not too expensive.looks like its about $40, and takes a couple weeks.

$40 ? Whoa, I live in Bc, and it only costs $27.

Make 100% sure you are ordering from the government website. There are a number of birth certificate websites out there which will offer to get your long form birth certificate, which while perfectly legitimate, they will charge you alot to do something that is easy to do yourself.

I think there were a couple of websites that I looked at which hopped up the price to about 50 - 60 $ while stats canada got it to me in two days for much less.

I actually ordered this morning and it was $27 - I think I was looking at a different type of certificate initially, or maybe the total with a 'rush' marked on it, which I don't need because I am not leaving until the summer.seems so far away! Wish it was sooner.
