What kind of passport copy will UK immigration accept?

Post Tue May 05, 2009 3:04 pm

Hi!
I am Canadian getting ready to marry a brit and apply for a spousal visa to move to the UK. I will need a copy of his passport. Can anyone tell me what kind of copy they submitted to UK immigration? He will have to pay almost $200 in the UK to get a 'notorized' copy- this seems ridiculous. Will they accept anything else? We need to know soon!

thanks!

I got married in Canada to a Scot in 2007 and we just got his passport notarized a few days after the wedding at a local notary office. He was a family friend so that might be why we didn't pay, or else maybe he's just the type who doesn't charge. It took about 15 minutes and was fine for my application, which was approved. I wouldn't recommend getting anything other than a notarized copy though as it's a straightforward process and it is what they ask for when you can't supply the original (which we couldn't because he had to fly back to the UK for work while I waited for everything to be approved).

Hope that helps.
