I was thinking about getting an ancestry visa, but it turns out my grandmother was born in Newfoundland before confed (as were both of my parents actually). This means she lost her British citizenship in 1949, and I'm guessing I can't use her for the ancestry visa. I'm fairly certain I can't use my great grandparents either.
The working holidaymaker's visa is being replaced with a newer type of visa soon. I don't qualify under any of the specific visas I've seen. Is there any way I can move to or work in the UK without being related to anyone or having sponsorship from a company that can't find a qualified working within the country? I really want to live there, but I'm not seeing that happening. Visiting my boyfriend every few months is expensive and I obviously want to spend more time with him. I'd like to be able to support myself if/when I go over on a more permanent basis.

Hi Angemala,

As long as you can proove that she was born there, that's all you need! Doesn't matter where she is now.
