What's the STUPIDEST question you've been asked about Canada

I live in a small town (they call it a city) in Western North Carolina. I work at the local newspaper doing data entry. Yesterday the receptionist asked me [b:2532e8a360]"are there trees in Can...

Whenever I find myself in the US, I like to pull their chain a bit. If I'm in a hotel with a swimming pool, I enjoy informing the people at the front desk that their hockey rink has melted.

I lived 3 years in Texas and that's where I got the most stupid questions. At many instances when people wondering about my french accent, I had to explain that I was from Quebec, Canada and that most of people in Qc were speaking french. Famous comment; I didn't know Canada was part of France . Do you have a French passport ? How did you learn english ?

Someone from Louisiana argued with me that the reason why some people in Canada speak french was because some Cajun speaking people decided to move up in Canada to live. I first thaugh the man was actually joking with me but he wasn't !?

The world really turn around their belly button !

I've been in Michigan 18 mos. I am constantly in awe of how little Michiganders know. And they are a flippin' border state!

I had someone ask me how they would mail a letter to Canada! Had I been in a sarcastic mood, my explanation might have started with "First you need to find yourself a good dogsled team ."

When I moved to Miami in the 6th grade my fellow students asked me why I "talk like people from tv" (I'd lost my 'eh' in 4th grade when, out on recess, my classmates asked me why i said 'eh' to which i replied "what are you talking about, eh?" gasped in horror, and immediately stopped). I told them I was from Toronto and they asked me if I lived in an igloo. granted, the public education in Miami is pretty poor.

I've found this thread quite funny.

I always get the Canadia one.

Have also had someone once ask me if Canada was on the coast of Spain.

My husband and I operate tours of an aboriginal community which is located on a little island just north of Darwin, Australian. It's a 20 minute flight. You would not believe how many tourists have asked us if we ever get a chance to fly back to Australia to visit. I say, we are in Australia. ?!. and so are you, this is just an island, not another country! lol

Re: the American thing - I have realised since being in tourism that Americans know next to nothing about any other country other than their own (generally speaking, don't want to offend any Americans here Smile)

And, they are the ones that ask the silliest questions. Once had an american woman on a sunset camel ride tour at Ayers Rock and she shouted out to my husband (who was leading the tour) "what's that BIG light in the sky over thar?!" (ok, you might have to imagine the drawl). My husband is looking around, thinking what is she talking about.and says to her, what light?. "That light! She says, pointing to the moon". True story. It was a big full moon just coming over the horizon but still, you'd think she'd be able to recognise a moon! The entire tour was still laughing about it 2 hours later. Smile

I was in North Carolina with a few friends and we met a bunch of Americans and my one guy friend decided to play a trick on them. He told them that Canadian girls NEVER shave. Then all the guys kept coming up to us and staring at our legs (middle of July) and trying to see under our armpits the entire time.

Stupidest question, sadly from a good friend, "What is the traffic like in Canada?" What's the traffic like? What's it like in America?!? Depends where you are - big countries, both of them! Duh.
