What to do with the wife?

Post Sat Aug 30, 2008 2:16 pm

I live in Canada and have been offered a transfer the the USA.

My wife is not Canadian, she is a permanent resident and applied for Canadian citizenship in December of 2007. She is waiting to take the citizenship test.

If pick up and move tomorrow, will she still be eligible to become a Canadian citizen and get a Canadian passport?

it shouldnt take her 8 months to write the test. once u write the test/take the oath, u can apply for the pport the same day; it takes approx 2 wks, though u may receive sooner.

Yes, she'll still be eligible, she'll just have to return to Canada when she gets the notice that her test is available.

Make sure you change the mailing address with CIC so that she gets the notice. AND have your mail forwarded from Canada to your US address. It doesn't cost much really.

Yeah I'm not quite clear on why it's taking so long to take the test, have you asked CIC?
Steve.
