What to expect?

Post Wed Dec 07, 2011 12:05 am

Ok so here we go... we are driving to the nearest border tomorrow (about 3.5 hours away) just to get our H1B and H4 Visa's official (I-94??). We have all the documentation (I think) approval notice etc. I plan to bring our passports, birth certificates, marriage certificates husbands degree and resume etc (anything else I need?). Any tips? What will they ask us? We are coming right back to Canada after. I think the company needs a copy of my husbands I-94 in order to start the process of getting his social security number. I find this all extremely confusing, any advice is welcome. Thanks!

If you have h1 and h4 approvals, you really don;t need to bring anything but the I-797s.

You ceratinly do not need to bring anything related to the petition for H1. That has been decided and there is no decision being made by the border officiers.

If the H4's weren;t filed, then you would need proof of relationship to the H1 worker.

But that is it.

The worker is responsible for getting their own SSn. You need the application from SSA.gov, and wait a couple of weeks after the I-94 before submitting it (at one of their offices at the border is best). The movers will also need the I-94.
