Has anyone gone through the Unmarried Partner process?

I've searched all over the UKVisa website to find a Visa form that needs to be filled out, and no luck.

I'm a British Citizen living in Canada. We'll both be going over together.

Anyone know of the form that needs to be filled out, I'd love to know!

Hi,

I asked a lawyer in London a few months ago. I was looking to have my own girlfriend over. Basically, the answer was, "if you're not married, then no visa".

I'm not sure where you heard about this "unmarried partner" process, but I'm not convinced there is such a program.

Good luck,
Eric

Hi there!

I haven't looked into it too much, but there is something called a Fiance Visa - but not sure what you need, or what it allows you to do.Try searching under that name.you may come up with what you need to know.

Hope that helps!

It looks to me like the same form as the Married partners - but you must be able to prove you have lived together for 2 years:

(see Question on unmarried and same-sex parters)

I definitely know you can get an 'entry clearance' or a visa for an unmarried partner.

This is what i found on the UK Visa website:

Can I join my unmarried or same-sex partner in the UK?

You can apply to join your unmarried or same-sex partner in the UK, as long as:

- they currently live and are settled in the UK, or
- they are coming to live permanently in the UK,

and you are aged over 18 and your sponsor is over 18.

How do I qualify to join my unmarried or same-sex partner in the UK?

You and your unmarried or same-sex partner must show that:

- any previous marriage, civil partnership or similar relationship, has permanently broken down
- you have been living together in a relationship similar to marriage or civil partnership for two years or more
- you have suitable accommodation which is owned or lived in only by you and your household, and where you and your dependants can live without any help from public funds
- you can support yourselves and any dependants without any help from public funds
- you intend to live together permanently
your partner is not under 18, and you are not under 18.

The Entry Clearance Officer will need to see evidence of a two-year relationship. This may include:

- documents showing joint commitments, such as bank accounts, investments, rent agreements or mortgages, and
- letters linking you to the same address, and official records (such as a gas or electricity bill or proof of your rent or mortgage arrangements) of your address

At first, you will be allowed to stay and work in the UK for two years. Near the end of this time, if you are still partners and intend to continue living together, you can apply to stay permanently in the UK.

If you and your unmarried or same-sex partner have been living together outside the UK for four years or more and you meet all the necessary requirements to stay permanently in the UK, you may be granted indefinite leave to enter. These requirements include showing that you have the necessary level of knowledge of the English language and life in the UK (see the relevant section of this guidance for more information).

- - - - - - - -

I can prove all this, I just don't know what form it is that i need to fill out.

Form VAF4 - which is on the page I linked to above. The direct link to it is:
http://www.fco.gov.uk/Files/kfile/VAF4-10Dec07,0.pdf

And the guidance notes:
http://www.fco.gov.uk/Files/kfile/VAF4Guidance-10Dec07,0.pdf

Section 6.1 is where you declare your unmarried partner status

Thanks Mari-mac!

I actually looked at that link last night and found the settlement form. But thanks for the follow up!

When it asks information about the sponser, would that be me? Since I'm his link to getting into the Country?

This board is alot more accomodating than the Embassy in Toronto. I emailed them with a few questions, similar to above. They wrote me back saying he needs a visa. Umm yeah, I knew that, hense why I'm inquiring. Arghh, really frustrating.

But thanks everyone for their input!

Yep - I'm pretty sure reading it that you are the sponsor. Hope that helps!
