Hey everyone

Just came across your website which is great because im in the middle of making a decision of moving to england. I made my first trip down to the uk this past christmas/new years. It was mainly a trip to meet my family and do the whole cousin thing, instead met a whole lot of ppl and liked the lifestyle so much so that i just got back from my second trip 3 days ago. I know its going to be hard make such a move but i think its time.

The only problem is i have no clue where to start. My main problem is Employment. Is it better to make a move down and look for a job while im there, or is it easier to get a job while sitting in vancouver. Another thing is Where do u even look for jobs ie. websites agencies ? I do have family there and another option would be just to move there and look for a job while im living with them. It would be great to find a job before i'd go.

IF anyone can reply to any of the questions i have that would be great at this point any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello!

I would say that it's easier to find a job once you're there. I found it was easier to get a job there than back here in Vancouver. Certainly you could have a job just about right away if you sign up with an agency and aren't overly picky about what job you have (unlike Vancouver where it can be difficult any time).

I found it difficult to look for a job even while living in a different city within England. When I first moved over I lived in Rugby and knew I was moving to Manchester a month or so later. Because of the interviews and such, and because it was such a pain an expense taking the train, I didn't even really look much until close to the time that I moved. Maybe in London they're more used to hiring people while they're still abroad, but in Manchester they wanted an in-person interview.

Having friends and family to stay with in the UK is definitely a huge asset. Having a reliable address to give out and not worrying so much about council tax, rent and all the rest of it for the first month is invaluable in helping you get on your feet. I know if I didn't have those things I'd probably have struggled with opening a bank account and other such things like others on this board. Count yourself lucky to have in-country contacts.

Best of luck with your decision-making and research!
