where to start!

Im canadian live and work in canada. My bf is american, he lives and works there....Im going to move in with him in the next year, will give up my job here and look for work there.....where do we start?

Only TWO consulates in Canada conduct Interviews! Montreal and Vancouver!! ALL Cr-1 go to MONTREAL!!!!

For k1 and k3: manitoba and west got Vancouver. Ontario and East goto Montreal!!

Best get a move on, a k1 takes anywhere from 6- 8 months!! But if ya need to work right away, CR-1 is ur best option, and that takes anywhere from 7-12 + months!! Can ya visit while under going the process? Sure, but its up to the POE (port of entry) officer. bring ties to canada (mortgage, job from letter) as u have may have to prove to the officer that ur only VISITING the usa and not LIVING there! this question gets asked almost on a daily basis on VJ!!

Everything u need and more is on VJ! Sure go spend $2000 + on a lawyer, but it wont get completed any faster! hell, even examples of filled out forms on VJ and its free.

k3 and cr-1 are for those already married.

Well then u need some type of work visa!! With the k1--once it is approved (6 to 8 months on average) you cross the border and activate it, you then have 90 DAYS to get married. So if u have no plans on getting married, best be looking for some type of work visa that you QUALIFY for. CAn visit for up to 6 months with POE guard approval.

if u visit for 6mon do u have to come back here for the same amt of time

Well if u stay out of Canada for more than 6 months, you loose your healthcare coverage!! You just can't stay in the USA wihtout a proper visa, and with no proper visa, you can't legally work in the USA
