Where will my dual citizenship let me move?

Post Tue Jan 29, 2008 11:02 pm

I have both UK and Canadian citizenship. We'd like to move and are thinking UK, Spain, Caribbean or elsewhere. Someplace with least amount of legal problems. I'm assuming the easiest places to move would be those within the commonwealth? Can anyone help.

hi,

A UK passport will allow you to work anywhere in the EU. Bear in mind though, that there will be some red tape to go through in most country to register as a resident.

If you work as an independant, you will also have to register and get VAT number. It's a good idea to get your diploma equivalencies for the country you plan to go to before leaving. You can do this through their embassy in canada.

Even to work in the UK, you'll need to get a National Insurance number (the equivalent of our SIN number) to be able to work.

None of this is impossible to do, but as with any dealing with the government, it can be long and frustrating. It depends on the country you plan to go to, some are better than others.

Good luck,
