Which TN category does a telecom service developer fit?

Postby usinca » Thu May 14, 2009 12:56 pm

1. Which TN category does my job fit?
80% of my job = network systems analyst (DOL15-1081 included under computer scientist and database admin)+ computer systems analyst (DOL15-1051).

I am with a large phone company in Canada so I work on networks as well as computer systems that control those networks. I am not a network engineer or a computer programmer, instead I work directly with them.

Can I apply TN under computer systems analyst? Not quite sure what exactly is Scientific Technician or whether it is a better fit in my case.

2. Is my qualification sufficient?
I have 5 years of directly related experieces.

I am half-way thru a MSc in Eletrical and Computer Engineering program offered by a US university.

I have a MBA from US, which included several IS/IT related courses.

I have a BE in Architecture.

1. Probably Computer Systems Analyst. Check to make sure your job description matches the one in the OOH. You definitely would not qualify under Scientific Technician. That category requires that you are working directly in support of professionals in the following fields: agricultural sciences, astronomy, biology, chemistry, engineering, forestry, geology, geophysics, meteorology or physics. Also, I believe your direct supervisor also has to have a degree in one of these fields.

2. For CSA you need at least a bachelor's or a diploma with 3 years experience. Your MBA would be sufficient for the academic requirement. Bring transcripts in case they want to look at the courses you've taken.

Thanks.

You seemed to get what I was talking about. I am impressed. Usually even technical people outside of telecom didn't seem to understand what I do.

I can't help but wonder how CBP officers w/o advanced technical training in all fields make decisions re: technical jobs classification, or technical people's qualification.

Systems analyst. Your qualifications sound sufficient but kind of messy, make sure you take a transcript and if you're going via air make sure you show up early.
