Which Visa Do I Apply For?

Post Tue Mar 01, 2011 10:46 pm

Hi there!

I would like to thank you in advance for reading my post and hopefully giving me some advice.

My boyfriend of (9 years so you could consider us common law) is working in London for the year of 2011. He is a lawyer and was placed with the same firm he works for in Calgary so that was easy. I want to join him in London in the middle April but can not figure out which visa I should apply for. I am 32 year old personal trainer who would like to both work and study while in London from April 2011 to December 2011.

Thanks a bundle!

If your boyfriend is in the UK under Tier 2 (given the information provided, we think he's probably under Tier 2 ICT), the easiest for you would be to apply as his dependent if you meet the requirements for unmarried partners. With this status, you can work and/or study in the UK.

I have some questions about apply for a UK Visa.

I live in Ottawa, Ontario Canada. I have been offered a 1 year contract from a London,UK software consulting company. The would be my sponsor to work in the UK.

Questions I have to apply for a UK Visa.

Where do I apply?

The process to apply, online, interviews etc?

What type of Visa should I be apply for?

How long does the process take? From applying to receiving the UK Visa?

Do I have to submit my original Canadian passport? The reason I ask is I travel to the US for work (I have a TN-1 Visa) and would need my passport while going through the UK Visa process. Can I use photocopies of my passport?
If I have to submit my passport, how long would they have it for?

What type of documentation from my future employer/sponsor would I need?

How much would this costs??

Anything else I should consider?

Thanks in advance
P
