WHM going with an Ancestry Visa boyfriend

Post Fri Aug 08, 2008 7:44 am

Hi Everyone,

My boyfriend and I are looking forward to moving to the UK in the new year, but I'm wondering if there is a conflict with our visas.

He's applying for an ancestry visa and I will be applying for a WHM. Is there an issue if we ilve together when we move there? I feel like I read somewhere that when travelling together one WHM has to go with another WHM.

Thoughts? Has anyone else heard of this? . perhaps I'm just getting too much UK visa research overload!

thanks!

you don't need to go on the same visas - you can live together

you can go solo - they don't make any rules that say you need to go with another of the same visa

but your visa has more restrictions
- you can only work for one year out of the two years your visa is good for
- you can't work at a job for more then 6 months
- you need like $5000 in the bank

he can stay for 5 years, work as much or as little as he wants, doesn't need to show any proof of funds

his is very flexible

Let's try this again. I had a whole post typed out, and it wouldn't let me put in a LEGITIMATE web address. Oh well, rules are rules! :D

Check that website out. It's the Visa info site for the UK. The WHM scheme will be obsolete in September. It's being replaced by the Tier 5 Youth Mobility scheme shortly after that. No news on how it will work yet; more to come after September.

AND, the UK is more anal now about who they let in. There will be only so many places available for the Tier 5, and there will be a points system going into place later on this year for Tier 1 (work permit) and Tier 2 (sponsored); you will need a BA, MBA, or PhD and plenty of experience in your field PLUS UK experience in order to pass. They have an online test for you to try.

Just an FYI.
