Hi, I'm Rena. I'm a born-and-bred Vancouverite, but have been living in Manchester, UK for a little over a year. I have a little more than a year to go before I head back home. At that point my English boyfriend will be emigrating to Canada.

I just want to say that it can feel pretty isolated living in a different country, but it sure is comforting to have some contact with other Canadians now!

Hello

Hello. I'm Brenda and I have been in the UK for three and a half years. Initially I came over to England to teach but then got married to a Scot... so that's why I'm still here and now in Scotland...

I've been making an effort to meet with people, but it's hard work. I signed up for a night class, so I've met some different people there.

Canuck in Vienna

Post Sun Jan 23, 2005 1:58 am

Hi I'm Andrea. Born and raised in Ottawa. Lived for a bit in South Korea and Vancouver BC plus I've travelled extensively across North America. Married an Austrian who was living in Ottawa and then we decided to move to Vienna. Not too many Canucks here; Americans and British make up most of the English speaking community. Hopefully there will be more Canadians in the near future!

Hi! I am Kirsty. I grew up between Ontario (Scarborough, Newmarket and Toronto) and St.Kitts (the Caribbean island..not the place just before Niagara Falls).

I was here in London for four months over the summer and moved back over here on 30th of November last year. I am engaged to an Englishman and so it looks like I will be here for quite a while. I've yet to meet another Canadian.

Actually I met one last summer, but she pretends she is British, so I don't count her.

She has only been here a few years, but to hear her speak you'd think she was birthed in the poshest hospital room in London. Heck, you might even mistake her for the Queen.
She turns her nose up at references to Canada and Canadian things. Finds people ribbing Canadians insulting instead of humourous.
I was ashamed.. but made people aware that I was the proper representation of what a Canadian was. ;)

Soon to be ExPat

I'm Sheila & am contemplating taking a job near Zurich, Switzerland (I currently live in Guelph, ON), taking my 2 children (13 & 9) along with me (and their cats). I lived in Scotland for a year when my daughter was a baby & in Belgium as a teen-aged exchange student. Things have certainly changed in the intervening years. Any hints for someone in my position?

I'm 34 and originally from the Maritimes. I moved to the UK 8 years ago and haven't looked back since.

I wasn't doing much while livin in the UK but since I've been over here I've been working as a finanical adviser for 6 1/2 of those 8 years.

I go back to visit at least once a year and get my fill of Tim Hortons, Bologna and Kraft Dinner.
