wife going to U.S. I'm staying in CA. Do we sell our home?

Post Mon Apr 12, 2010 10:18 am

Hello,
I'm a new member and was looking for advice on my wife and I's situation.
She is moving from Ontario down to Indiana for a new job opportunity with her company. Her company will be taking care of all necessary work visa's. I will be moving from Ontario to Manitoba to work for an aviation company and will be commuting to Indiana once a month for the next couple of years.
We own a house in Ontario and were wanting to sell it and buy a condo down in Indiana. I will be living with In-laws in Manitoba so we will not own any property in Canada if we do this.
What are the tax implications if we do this? Should we keep the house and rent it out?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Doersn't matter from tax point of view. Your wife will be non-resident and you will be manitoba resident. House doesn't matter.

Thanks,
I thought it was pretty cut and dry but not sure if I was missing something.

Cheers
