Work as RN is U.S.

Post Thu Sep 16, 2010 2:51 am

Hi,
I am a Canadian citizen, but got my nursing degree in the U.S. I currently have a U.S. RN license, the visa screen and have a job interview coming up in the states.

I have applied to two Canadian provinces to have my education evaluated so that I can eventually take the boards and get a license. This process will be very lengthy and the fact that the CRNE is only offered 3x per year could leave me waiting 1 year + to get licensed in Canada.

In the mean time, I am hoping to work in the U.S. as an RN to get a couple years experience under my belt and then go back to Canada.

My concern is the fact that I don't have a Canadian license. If I was offered a job and applied for TN status and only have a U.S. license..would they be suspicious? It definitely has been done. I know some other Cdn nurses that recieved their education in the U.S. and did not have a Canadian license at the time they applied for the TN status and they had no problems.

If anyone here has been in the same situation or has some advice it would be greatly appreciated!!
