Work for Canadian company and living in the US

Post Mon Apr 11, 2011 6:27 pm

A small company in Canada would like to have me work for them as a contractor when I am in the US as a resident.

Is that even possible and if so how ?

Thanks.

Need more details, are you an LPR in the US? What is the nature of the work, etc.

But basically yes it is possible if you are an LPR in the US, it's more to do with tax paperwork than immigration paperwork. They would have to have a US payroll which would be tough for a small Canadian company to do, so you would have to have your own company which is also a pain to set up plus you have to do all the withholding yourself. Because FICA withholding is so much higher than CPP withholding, you'd have to be careful what you invoice them too.
