Work Visa stamped before or after US Vacation?

Dh has rec'd his I-797B (for L1A) form from the consulate. A bit of a glitch, we have a trip planned to Hawaii in a couple of weeks. We're not sure what is the best order to do this: go to the border this weekend and get the Visas stamped or put it off until after. We don't want to be denied entry for our vacation but the L1A is an absolute must for dh's job. For the vacation, we will be driving into the US and flying out of a US airport.

Just enter on L1/L2 when you cross for your vacation.

You can go on vacation in L status, you know.
