Postby Kev820 » Sun Aug 26, 2007 11:28 am

Hello Everyone,
I'm currently in Canada, making my way down to Abu Dahbi to work for Etihad Airways in Aircraft Maintenance. If you are working there or know somebody, I would like to know the following:
Whats the company like to work for?
Whats the general workforce like?
Stuff to be aware Off?
As I don't know anyone there, It would be nice to get some or any kind of feedback. Thanks so much, hope to hear from you soon.

HI
I used to work for Canadian Airlines/Air Canada and though I didnt work for Etihad I had a lot of dealings with them over a broken wheelchair. They were unbelievably generous when they realized the predicament they put us in.The only name I can remember is Miss Rita who came from South African Airways to work as their Customer Service Manager at the Airport. She was very nice and everyone seemed to be trying very hard to create a world renown airline. I think you will like AD.its a bit quieter than Dubai.sort of like Toronto compared to Ottawa.we lived in Khalifa City A which is right out by the airport. No traffic hassles. Sorry I cant give you any more details about the maintenance dept but there are a lot of Canadian over in the UAE from Wardair, Canada 3000, Canadian and Air Canada.lots were leaving Emirates to come to Etihad as the wages were better. So I think you should be able to find lots of canucks in both AD and Dubai.bring your hockey gear if you play.

Oh yeah, the general workforce.ie grunt work will be done by East Indians Pakistanis Sri Lankans etc. Be prepared to repeat yourself a few times as peoples use of English can vary. Though you will find all the professionals will speak and write English sometimes it can be formal English and they will use words that we dont.ie vessels can mean pots and pans! Just requires some patience and making your brain work a little harder until you get into the rhythm. The Sheikh that owns Etihad is well educated and westernized so I think you will find your knowledge will be appreciated. Be aware of the 'pecking order' You might find that certain ethnic groups are used to only doing what they are told to do, not anything more. Not that they are lazy, they are used to being told what to do, when to do it and how to do it. You might find that they dont think for themselves and that is only because they have never been allowed to do so. So patience is essential.
