Working as a Police Officer / Teacher in the U.S.

Post Sun Nov 14, 2010 3:41 pm

Hi,

I have teaching (university TESOL instructor), military and police experience (RCMP) but would like to explore opportunities in the U.S. I was on Monster.com and cannot believe the immense job opportunities in the U.S. compared to limited job opps. in these fields in Canada. So, I got to thinking that I might look into working in the U.S.

I hold B.A. (Criminology), M.A. (Education) and Ph.D (Education).

What kind of visa would I need to teach or work in police services in the U.S.? Initial Google searches reveal that I may or may not need to be a U.S. citizen / Green Card holder, depending on the particular state in which I apply for work.

Finally, TN Visa job listings do not include the professions I'm interested in.

Any info from any Canucks that have made the transition from Canada to the U.S. who work in these fields?

Thanks.

You would need to be sponsored for GC to be a policeman, since it is not eligible for any other work status.

Thanks. So a minimum of a green card would be required for policing. Teaching would be covered under the TN Visa professions, if I understand what I have read on the TN Visa website.

Some--if not many--one has to be a USA citizen to be an actual police officer
