Hi there everyone

Myself and a friend will be travel ling on a working holiday starting Dec 31/06. She will be staying for about 5 months and myself about 10 months.

I was looking on some advice on good and cheap insurance while I am there, where to go for temp work and any tips on good hostels to live in during our travels.

Please keep in mind that we are budget travelers. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hi Melissa,

If you are going up to North Queensland to explore Cairns, the Great Barrier Reef, Port Douglas and the Daintree (which you definitely should!), a few great budget backpacker hostels I have stayed in along the coast are:

PK's Jungle Village (Cape Tribulation) - www.pksjunglevillage.com.au/ (resort-style, by the beach, fantastic)

Parrotfish Lodge (Port Douglas) - www.parrotfishlodge.com.au/

The Serpent,Cairns - www.serpenthostel.com/ (a bit further out of Cairns but still close and a lot nicer than some of the more central ones - they also have a bus to take you everywhere)

And further down South there is a place called Mission Beach which is worth a visit and a great backpacker place there is called Scotty's.

In terms of work, a great website for backpackers looking to find temp/casual work all over Australia is Jobaroo www.jobaroo.com . It's also got visa information and other useful stuff for working travellers.

hey, i got some insurance through a canadian company and 1 month after arriving needed surgery in my mouth, little did i know cause i missed the very fine print that my insurance only covered emergency services, and that i needed to call the day of my injury and make a claim.basically it was shit insurance and i ended up paying 1600 dollars. so dont use Globtrek insurance.its garbage.and if yur in Melbourne give me a shout.
