Hi
My son applied for one in person at the British High commissioner in Ottawa earlier this month (on a Monday).
He didn't have a bank statement with him that showed a current balance of at least CAD$2500. They took in the application and we went to the bank to make a deposit of CAD$3000. The bank faxed them a letter stating this. By Friday, his visa was approved.
Very friendly staff and no problems.
If he had had the bank statement with him, he would've got the visa issued the same day.

Thank you! Just wondering, was your son asked if he would return after two years? If yes, how did he show he would?

No, he was not asked that.
I had already bought a return ticket (1 year), just in case they needed proof. He can use the ticket to come to Ottawa for a holiday or for his return if he only wants to stay a year instead of two.
