Working in Canada from US

Post Sun Mar 27, 2005 10:26 pm

Hey everyone i wanted to say that i like reading the forums. I am moving to Canada to do auto racing. Unfortunatly im not loaded like most racers. So i am going to have to work. I am going on a student visa. I was wondering if it was possible to get a job in Canada that pays me cash. Is this pretty acceptable like in the US. Is the any kind of professions that tend to do this over others? Any suggestions would be helpful.

THanks again everyone.[/quote]

Honestly, the only kind of jobs I can think of that will pay 'under the table' are generally low paying ones. So - Jobs in the service industry (restuarants) sometimes hostels / hotels, or labour jobs (landscaping, etc).

It really helps if you know people or have an idea of what you want to do. It helps even more if you try to get the proper paperwork too :)

under the table/cash paying jobs without a work permit are not legal, and you could jeopardise your visa status.

Yeah, it gets done all the time, doesn't make it legal tho (even in the US). Consider getting a work permit and a legit job so as not to possibly mess up your status and get deported.

Good luck with the racing. You doing the CASCAR circuit or ???

There are a lot of jobs that pay cash, and not just lousy ones. Jobs like process serving, courier, and a lot of other jobs will pay cash. It is not illegal to be paid in cash, it is up to you on whether or not you file taxes. Hopefully by now you have found something. Good Luck!

Look at it this way, if you are a die hard American and don't appreciate the millions of immigrants being in the US working for cash, then don't attempt to come to Canada to work for cash. As a race car driver you must have something different to offer in order to obtain a job easily in Canada. Look for a company to sponsor you and obtain a job that you can feel responsible at and honest and humble about doing. And I don't know if they regard "under the table" jobs as "professions."

N kick ass out on the track !

Yeah you should totally see if you can get a sponsor. There might be some other regulations for that kinda stuff.
