She won't be living in Canada, so the urge will apss every evening as she crosses back into WA.

Btw, the husband would NOT be considered resident under this circumstance, steve. He remains non-resident.

OK...

It now appears that I could telecommute from out of the state... which could include Canada!

That brings a new question...

Both my wife and I would live in Canada. Would this allow us to get Health Care from Canada? I could then stop paying for the Health Care insurance in the US?

Would this make revenue Canada (ARC or CRA) happier?

Thanks,

Jean

Well, you would now be Cdn residents, and you would be a Cdn employee of a US company, which would require them to pay you as such.
Throw in the fact that they are the Govt, and you may be getting into murky territory of Govt Service, which may mean (a) your wages still would not be taxable in canada, but (b) you maight not be considered resident either, and might (you'll need to do the legwork) not be eligible for BC coverage (just like a foreign diplomat).

Check with BC govt, and fly this one past your WA employer (they may not want to get into the diplomatic business with you).

Hi, I've been reading this forum for months and finally decided to join up :)

I will tell you my experience telecommuting wasn't the greatest because I was always scrutinized by U.S. immigration about my F-1 visa and why I'm not in class..etc. I am now in search for a position as a Social Worker or Graphic designer under a TN because I have degrees in both avenues. I may go more towards the Graphic design because my experience is better in that category.

As for the healthcare portion, I was still able to receive my healthcare from Montreal while I attended school in Michigan but this was quite a few years back. Who knows things could have changed since then.

Students do not lose their Cdn residency while in school in US (and in fact must maintain foreign residency), so keeping Prov care is not a problem.
