Working in Homebush...where to live?

Postby ktrianta on Thu Jan 03, 2008 12:13 pm

Hi all,

I'll be moving soon.working in Homebush, and am wondering where to live. I want to find a place close to the beach.Bondi, Coogee, Maroubra. How long of a commute is this? Any other recommendations?

Also, can you lease a car in AUS? Not sure if you can do that there.

Thanks,

Kosta

How much do you want to spend? Those areas are pretty pricey, and you have to think a bit about your commute. I think the trains don't really go around there, and it might take you a while to get to work. Check the Sydney Transit trip planner to figure out the commute. (type sydney buses into google) I'd post the link, but this forum won't let me for some reason.

Hi Kosta,

I just tried posting you information that will be of use to you for your move to Sydney. But it hasn't gone through. So, here's take 2.

I spent a few months living in both Bondi Junction (near Bondi beach) and Coogee. I loved Coogee but wasn't too keen on Bondi. The beach fills up with people but it is not the nicest beach in Sydney.

Essentially, if you live at Bondi Beach, you will need to catch a bus to Bondi Junction, then a train to Central station, and then change to another train to get to Homebush. It will be a long journey.

From Coogee and Maroubra it will be 30 -40mins on the bus to Central and then a train trip.

Driving to work will be quicker, leasing is available but is not as popular an option as in Canada.

But if you are going to live in Sydney, you may as well live by the beach and hang the travel time. The beaches are beautiful. It's great coming home to a beach suburb after work and going for a walk or swim. On colder days, you'll just see the locals at the beach, but on warmer days people from miles around come along to enjoy them, and it helps create a great buzz.

For more information, try cityrail dot info for advice on train times and services; sydneybuses dot info for information on bus times etc. As for where to live, just google cityhobo. It profiles about 60 Sydney neighbourhoods which may help you decide where to live.

Cheers.
