Working in the US while living in Canada

Post Thu Mar 17, 2005 9:15 am

I am permanent resident here in Canada, I just received a job offer from a Company in the USA (Michigan border), Does anyone know if I can live in Canada and cross the border daily to work in the USA. I will have a TN visa to work in the US.

Absolutely! If you are a US CITIZEN you have a right to work in the US and travel to the US without any US Immigration documentaion. You are also a legal Canadian Perm. Resident and are lawfully allowed to return to Canada to live. Only thing is that you must comply with the Canadian residency requirments of residing physically in Canada for 6 months of the year (this is total days not necessarly consecitive days)if you are not physically in Canada for the 181 days your perm. resident status could be revoked. As you will be going back and forth each day - that probably will not be an issue.
Some of the larger ports, such as Windsor/Detroit have special "pre-clearance" lanes for low risk frequent travellers called NEXUS lanes designed to facilitate the movement of commuters.
You must submit (yes another application) for pre-aproval for use of the lanes.

Good luck!

Ya - I know someone in Windsor who does it everyday! Shouldn't be a problem.
