Working Remotely (in Canada) for a US Company

Post Thu Jul 07, 2011 11:42 am

I have a job offer on the table from a US Company -- they are currently willing to let me work remotely from Canada, but would need to travel to US for client visits likely 10 days a month. Do I need a Visa? What kind?!

Where the heck do I start before I can even consider the offer lol. Can this work? They also are willing to relocate me to US if needed and I am interested, but ideally, til I know whether I like the role, I think I would prefer the family support here for my husband while I travel and get used to things.

Any advise or good resources to point me to?

If you become their employee, you will absolutely need a visa to enter and work -- most likel ya TN if you qualify.

If you become merely a consultant, you would likely enter on B1 status.

To become a consultant, would you know whether best to go self-employed or corporation or know of a good resource to contact?

Ask any Cdn accountant. They will evaluate your situation.
