Workplace Culture

Post Fri Oct 12, 2007 3:23 pm

Hi! I have a lot of questions regarding the workplace culture in Australia. They might sound rather silly but hope someone could help me out.

Is the workplace culture in Australia (in general) pretty much similar to that in Canada? Is it common to work overtime (in the IT industry)? In some Asian countries it's almost mandatory to attend social events outside of work hours, is it the same in Australia? Is it common for people to pack lunch to work? And, is it more common to have open office or cubicles?

Thanks a lot.

I've been working in Sydney for almost 2 years now and I can tell you that work culture is extremely similar to what I was used to back home in Vancouver. Sydney has a bit more of a fast paced feel and its alot busier. I guess it depends on your industry. I work in finance, and really don't find too many differences.
