Would like to find work before I move to DF

Post Mon Mar 08, 2010 10:28 am

HI! My friend and I are planning a move to Mexico city in May. We both have diplomas in International trade and both speak Spanish very well. Ideally we are looking for entry level jobs for any company that imports/exports, freight forwarders, or even in the banking sector working with international finance.
In addition, we both have TEFL certification to teach English as a foreign language. I also speak, read and write French. Any leads on jobs or advice for job hunting in Mexico would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks so much!

It's usually difficult to secure employment before arriving in Mexico...face to face is the way things are done here.

My background is in teaching English so I'll comment fro that point of view. Once you're in town, it will be easier to locate schools for teaching. You might not have the right experience for teaching at the high school level so language schools might be your best option. One area that you may do well in is working for a school that sends you directly into companies to teach business English. You can earn more doing this over teaching at a fixed location in a language school and it might give you the chance to network into another type of job more appropriate to your background.

Good luck!

Job hunting in Mexico is a challenge, especially for foreign nationals. Every year, thousands of foreigners come to Mexico seeking work, ranging from, at the lowest level, informal and part-time work to, at the highest level, qualified, sponsored professionals and executives arriving in Mexico to peddle their expertise in a pre-defined field. But still don’t break your heart and proceed.
