Would like to meet other Canadians in the UAE

Post Mon Mar 31, 2008 1:21 am

Greetings fellow Canadians!

I have been living in Ajman for the past 5 months and would really like to socialize with other Canadians in the UAE. I am 33 years old and teach grade 6 at a school in Sharjah. I don't mind driving to meet for coffee because it gets me out of Ajman! If you want to know more about me you can search me out on facebook and have a peek at my profile to see my interests, etc. Hope to meet some of you Canadians soon.I am a little homesick!

Hi Heidi

I ran into your message by chance, this is Al and I live in Toronto Canada. I am sorry that I can't provide any help regarding your request. However since you recently moved to U.A.E, you might be able to give me some tips on how to find a teaching job in U.A.E, I just finished my B.Ed from Brock Univ.(I/S level), my teachable subjects are Biology and General Science.
Best Wishes,
Al

Hi guys

Whoever is willing to meetup for coffee, I'm in Dubai and my cell is 050-9160724. Feel free to get in touch with me at any time. I've been trying to network with other Canadians here for a while, but we are an elusive bunch =p

Hi guys! I was thinking about moving to Dubai from Toronto, Canada. I'm 25 and have a BComm in Information Technology. But I need to find a job first. Can someone tell me if it's completely crazy for a single gal to do this on her own? Or has anyone actually done this or known anyone who has and in fact succeeded? I just need to get away from my family and current job! Need something life changing and exciting :) Thanks! I wish i was one of you and we could all meet up for drinks and have a laugh

I am looking to move there with my 4 children and wife to teach. Are the schools American based schools? Are they private schools? Any idea how my girls and wife would be treated there being Canadian?

Anna: You do not need to find a job first, what you do need to do is actually come here in person and start looking, otherwise ur going to be missing out on many great opportunities. Very few companies are willing to call internationally to recruit someone who is still considered a fresh graduate. Come out here and look hard. Finding work now is getting easier and better than it was in the past 6 months, but it will take time. If you have any further questions, PM me, i may be able to help more.

Chris King: There is a bunch of Canadian schools here associated with Aldar (which is a major development company), there are also american schools as well such as the American Community School. All schools are private (Govt schools teach only arabic and available exclusively to citizens with some minor exceptions)
How old are your girls? women here in general are treated fairly well, they have their own lines and waiting areas in banks and hospitals, police tend to be extra nice with women. As for your daughters, id say that theyd be treated the same way as they would be in Canada; there isnt that much discrimination or sexism really (And i have 3 sisters id never hear the end of it if sexism was bad here)

Hi everyone,

I just came to Dubai 2 weeks ago and am glad to see this forum. My family is back in Mississauga as we need lot of papers to process their visas and we came from Florida after living there for 4 years, so everything is in mess.

Anyway, I would love to connect to Canadians here in UAE. Today being Eid day I ventured going to Sharjah up to Rolla and creek side. LOT OF PEOPLE OUT THERE. Next time I am planning to go to Ajman/RAK/Khorfakkan. My cell phone number is 050-1761642. I am right now in Deira near Al Ghurair City. Hope to connect with you all soon.

Thanks,
Sona
