Young people moving to Sydney

Post Tue Dec 09, 2008 11:28 am

Hey, a friend and I (both 19 years old) are moving to Sydney in January. We already have Working holiday visa's (sub. 417) and have already booked our flight and reneawed our passports, so it's written in stone.

My question is, whats the job market like out there in sydney (potts point, bondi junc., kings cross etc.) for two 19 year old's with a high school diplomma. I realize the job I will be getting will be nothing too great but I just wanna know if it's feasable for us (who have both saved up $8,000 AUS) to stay in Sydney for a year while working.

Thanks alot, any comments or answers are welcome and are greatly appreciated!

Whats your experience as far as working in Canada? Any cafe jobs, Tim Hortons etc...
The good thing is because your so far away you can fudge your resume a bit, which will make it easier to find work.
In general that visa is ok for finding work, the only stipulation is the 6 month limit with one employer.
If you ever get desperate the good thing about australia is you can go anywhere to do harvest work, fruit picking etc...

I would try to get a job in the city in a call centre or something. Do your research now and sign up to a recruitment agency and you can be a temp and earn up to $20 an hour.

Minimum wages are a lot higher here so even if you worked in a cafe you would do alright. Just remember though, we don't have to tip in Australia.
