Young Teacher Moving to Australia...Help

Post Mon Apr 06, 2009 7:10 am

Hey everyone! I am from a small town in Ontario and am looking to move to Australia at the end of Aug. to teach in Australia. The two areas I am thinking of are Melbourne and Queensland, but really open to any place. I don't want too city like because I am from such a small town, but want to be able to meet people. Anyone know of any good websites to meet up with teachers already teaching in Australia?
Thank you!

Hi,
Make sure you contact the education departments in both states, and ask if there's much work in the major cities, or wherever you think you'll end up. I'm in Sydney and work as a sub is SCARCE. It all depends on who you know and what area you live in/willing to work in. Pays well though, when you can get it!

And a permanent job is pretty much impossible until you build up like 10yrs seniority points etc. so I hear anyway.

Most of the teachers who are on the Poms in Adelaide site seem to be able to find work okay so you may wish to look at Adelaide, know that I appear to be pusing it, but it is a great city especially of you are from a smaller place in Canada, lots of other Canadians moving here. Easy city to negotiate around, real close to the beaches etcetera. If you want to know more about it send me a personal post, not sure how to do it myself yet.
