Youth Mobility Scheme

Post Thu Jan 21, 2010 12:36 am

Hi guys,
I am a 23 year old Canadian looking to go work and travel in the UK. I know that I meet the requirements of the tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme Visa but I just wanted to know if anyone has gone through this process recently and could give me any tips as how best to proceed. And if anyone has been rejected even if they meet the listed requirements?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Kate

Also any tips on how to book flights with an open date would be great! Is it best to use a travel agent?
Thanks
Kate

Take two passport photos. The website said one when I applied - I was made to get more done after I'd arrived at the VAC office in Edmonton. Apparently the rule had changed the week prior and the website hadn't been updated.

Most rejections are because the supporting evidence isn't acceptable - bank statements that aren't signed by the bank, etc. When I went in to get my biometrics done, they sat down and went through the application with me just to make sure my answers were all clear, for instance that I was moving with my partner, but he came over on his own student visa. Aside from that, the biggest problem I had with the application was trying to figure out what marital status I fell under... commonlaw partner, civil partner, unmarried partner, or single.
Keep reinventing yourself.

sorry guys, I'm gonna be repetitive & repost my question in this thread so that i cover all my bases ;)

Does anyone know of any good ways/sites to meet people that are headed to London to work this summer? I would definitely rest easier if I could find someone before I leave that would be willing to split some of the accomodation/living costs!

**As an extra - Kate, I'm not sure if you've left for the UK yet but I'll be in/around London if that's where you are headed! :D

I am also interested in applying soon and am happy to hear that they are processed quite quickly! In terms of maintenance funds, do they evaluate how long the funds have been in your account for? Is this supposed to be documented in the bank letter?

Thank you!

Hello
I am a Canadian thinking about moving to the UK this fall and working from the UK and using it as a home base for travelling through other areas in europe. Does anyone know the freedom of movement allowed within the rest of the EU if you have a Tier 5 (youth mobility) visa? Are Canadians still limited to travel visas of 90 days within a 180 day period within the rest of the EU region?

Thanks,

Mike
