Unfortunately I do not think we will get our answers here.

I have found expatforum dot com has been much more helpful, try there instead.

How long would they take to give me the visa? Is it absolutely necessary to go back to Canada or are there exceptions?
It says "The stays must be discontinuous." how much time needs to be between the visas?

- You definitely have to go back to Canada to get the visa; no exceptions unforunately
-If you apply in person you will get the visa the same day
-According to the French consulate in Montreal's FAQ page "discontinous" means at least 3 months (!!!!!!!!!)

Has anyone actually gone from the 2E visa to the 2A visa?

I know we have all read the consulate websites, but if someone could recount their real-life experience, that would be wonderful.

Primarily, could you please confirm that you did have to return to Canada in between the two? How did it work out - you had a contract offer in France, but had to tell them to wait for a few months while you went to Canada to get your visa? Is 2E to 2A actually feasible?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

On another note, I am currently in France on a 2E visa - I posted here earlier about it, probably not the best thread for a 2E discussion considering it's called 2A - you can PM me if I can help answer any 2E questions.
