OMG, that sounds like a nightmare. However, I was willing to go with notion that that was a rare occurance and I started to look into booking
flights with Zoom.
Well, I would be travelling with my husband and daughter who will be 20 months at the time of travel. I read the following on Zooms website:
"An infant is not entitled to a seat unless one has been purchased to accommodate an approved car seat. The car seat must be approved by the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (sticker stating CMVSS 213 or CMVSS 213.1 must appear and the seat must be manufactured after 1981). US manufactured car seats must have an FMV sticker. Car seats manufactured in the U.K. are not approved for use onboard Zoom
Airlines flights."
We had intedned to purchase a seat for my daughter as there is no way I want a restless toddler with no seat of her own for 9.5 hours! You'll notice however that we wouldn't actually be allowed to bring on our
UK manufactured car seat at all and she is 4 months under the age they allow her a seat with no carseat in it.
I called just to make sure since this made no sense at all. Our carseat is made by a major manufacturer and is approved for flying by the EU. In fact we had 8 flights to and in the US in a car seat that was the exact same brand.
Nope, it's true, there is no way that she was going to be allowed to fly unless it was on our laps. This policy seems very bizzare to me. Somehow a toddler with nowhere to sit but on the lap someone is safer than in an approved for travel car seat in her own seat? Not to mention the fact that I would think everyone including the other passengers would be much happier to have a contented child aboard vs one that is trying to be restrained on the lap of someone with no room to move.
I have sent an email and I am eagerly awaiting the response.
