Zoom?

Has anyone flown between the UK and Canada on Zoom Airlines? If so, how was your experience?
Has anyone gone premium and was it worth the money?

Thanks in advance

flew on zoom about a month ago. return leg was a nightmare. was meant to fly from calgary to london. after a delay in calgary we were told that we had to go to vancouver to collect and drop off passengers there. once we got to vancouver. we were told that we would have to spend the night in vancouver. those of us with connecting flights gave our details to a representative of the airline. thinking (upon relfection quite naively) that our connections would be sorted at gatwick. when we got to gatwick at 3 in the morning we were handed letters that said that "zoom has no responsibility for missed connections on other airlines. ha ha. look at you, you're smelly and jetlagged." in fairness, i have nothing but good things to say about things about the actual flight and my flight from gatwick to edmonton went smoothly. what it boils down to is how willing you are to roll the dice with a charter airline

OMG, that sounds like a nightmare. However, I was willing to go with notion that that was a rare occurance and I started to look into booking flights with Zoom.
Well, I would be travelling with my husband and daughter who will be 20 months at the time of travel. I read the following on Zooms website:
"An infant is not entitled to a seat unless one has been purchased to accommodate an approved car seat. The car seat must be approved by the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (sticker stating CMVSS 213 or CMVSS 213.1 must appear and the seat must be manufactured after 1981). US manufactured car seats must have an FMV sticker. Car seats manufactured in the U.K. are not approved for use onboard Zoom Airlines flights."

We had intedned to purchase a seat for my daughter as there is no way I want a restless toddler with no seat of her own for 9.5 hours! You'll notice however that we wouldn't actually be allowed to bring on our UK manufactured car seat at all and she is 4 months under the age they allow her a seat with no carseat in it.
I called just to make sure since this made no sense at all. Our carseat is made by a major manufacturer and is approved for flying by the EU. In fact we had 8 flights to and in the US in a car seat that was the exact same brand.

Nope, it's true, there is no way that she was going to be allowed to fly unless it was on our laps. This policy seems very bizzare to me. Somehow a toddler with nowhere to sit but on the lap someone is safer than in an approved for travel car seat in her own seat? Not to mention the fact that I would think everyone including the other passengers would be much happier to have a contented child aboard vs one that is trying to be restrained on the lap of someone with no room to move.

I have sent an email and I am eagerly awaiting the response.

Now I'm thinking that my enthusiastic booking for summer holidays with the inlaws may not have been my best move.

I hope everything goes well. Fingers are crossed.

I flew from Vancouver to London (with a stopover in either Calgary or Edmonton, never did find out which one) in mid-May. I initially booked a direct flight, but they screwed up and had to switch things around. Got a small refund out of it.

The flight itself wasn't so bad. Incredibly old airplanes - the seats had ashtrays on the arm rests! Thought we were in some old Czechoslovakian cast-away from the Soviet era! Rather turbulent at times, but I'm sure that was more the fault of atmospheric conditions, rather than "poor driving".

I'd likely use them again. Why pay three times the price for Air Canada when they're just as crap?

Have you guys heard that Canada3000 is coming back? They are actually recruiting staff at the moment. Not sure if they will be doing long haul flights though as they are asking people to send their resumes to the Mount Hope airport in Hamilton.................

I flew with Zoom from Canada. Super super cheap. Some problems: Zoom was located in the Domestic Terminal in Vancouver so I wondered around for awhile trying to find their desk. THen the line up was so huge. I was a bit over on my luggage weight and was charged $88 extra...ouch. I also prebooked my seat which you can do for an extra charge and when I went to get on the plane I was put in a different seat. So I told one of the flight staff and I had to stand for 40 minutes and I was so mad, but ended up in first class, but an isle seat....but can't complain about that.
