Portuguese resembles most latin laguages, though it is distinctly different. If you speak Spanish, it will help you quite a bit however English isn't spoken much outside of Portugal's tourist areas. Learning some Portuguese will go a long way in helping you get along with the locals.

Getting Around

Where is ...? = Onde é ...? Onde está ...?
How much is the fare? = Quanto é que custa o bilhete?
Ticket = Bilhete
One ticket to ..., please. = Um bilhete para ..., por favor.
Where are you going? = Para onde é que vai?
Where do you live? = Onde é que mora?

Train = Comboio
Bus = Autocarro
Subway, Underground = Metro
Airport = Aeroporto
Train station = Estação de caminho de ferro
Bus station = Estação rodoviária
Subway station, Underground station = Estação de metro
Departure = Partida
Arrival = Chegada
Car rental agency = Agência de aluguer de carros

Hotel = Hotel
Room = Quarto
Reservation = Reserva
Are there any vacancies for tonight? = Há vagas para hoje à noite?
No vacancies = Não há vagas

Passport = Passaporte
