While you can probably think of hundreds of reasons why you’d live to visit a foreign country, are there really as many reasons to live there? Like the saying goes, ‘It’s a nice place to visit, but I don’t know if I’d live there.’ Is that true?

Here are ten reasons why you SHOULD live abroad or at least consider it:

1. A fresh start – Everyone needs a fresh start once in a while. By living someone where completely new, you can do just that.
2. A new perspective – Like a fresh start, being somewhere completely different than ‘home’ gives you the opportunity to look at things differently.
3. Learn a new language – Because you might be living in an area with a new language, you’ll have to learn it too in order to communicate. Conversely, even if they speak English, it might not be what you’re used to.
4. Learn about a new culture – Just like the new language, you can learn about a completely different culture.
5. Start new traditions – Because you’ve learned about the new culture, you’ll be able to start new traditions in your family.
6. Slow down your life – Many European countries tend to live life at a slower pace which might be just the thing that you need.
7. Better job opportunities – When you’re someone in business, the new location can help you better serve European clients.
8. Have two places to call home – Instead of going on vacation somewhere, you can actually call your new home, well, home.
9. Show your children how to live in somewhere outside of Canada – Children need to experience the idea of another culture that isn’t quite like what they’re used to. It allows them to have a broader view of the world.
10. Opportunity to make life long friends – When you move anywhere, you afford yourself the opportunity to meet new people and make friends that you might not have made in the comfort of your own home.

Living abroad is so much more than just moving to another country and living there for a while. It’s an opportunity to widen your horizons and really step outside of your comfort zone in order to learn about the world. Too many times, we limit ourselves by our geography – when you live abroad, you just can’t limit yourself anymore.
