Chad travel tips & advice

Chad is a landlocked country in Central Africa. Libya, Sudan, Central African Republic, Cameroon, Nigeria, and Niger border it. The capital is N’Djamena and is one of the most laid back cities of the world. It is host to the Central Market where you can go and haggle over the wonderful produce and goods it has to offer.

Chad is mostly a desert region that is known by some as “The Dead Heart of Africa”. Unfortunately this beautiful country is one the poorest and most corrupt anywhere. It is a known fact that over 80% of its population is barely surviving under the poverty level. It may have gained independence from France in 1960, but it has had too many troubles to even begin mentioning.

Valid passports and visas are required for all those who wish to travel. Some of the visas may be obtained upon arrival, but it is a good idea to contact your embassy to seek advice on the best way to purchase one. Also note that those traveling with small children may need to provide proof of parentage when traveling in and out of Chad.
