Nigeria is located in West Africa and its capital is Abuja. Benin Chad, Cameroon, and Niger are bordering countries; Nigeria’s coast lies on the Gulf of Guinea, which is a part of the Atlantic Ocean. This amazing country has been inhabited since 9000 B.C., as archeological proof has shown.

It is always a good idea to check with your country’s embassy for safety information regarding travel. Some countries are not as welcomed as others. Also, a visa is required before entering and can be obtained through your embassy. They are a great resource to help you fill out the required paperwork and explain procedures so there is not a delay upon arriving.

Getting Around Nigeria

Bus travel is extremely popular. There are a number of coaches or buses within the city areas. Take note that there may be delays due to traffic jams.

Motorcycles are common and great for short distance travel but you should be warned that helmets are not available and drivers may not follow the regular rules of the road.

There are cars to rent but it is always a good idea to rent a car with a driver. A local will be able to negotiate the roadways and even offer advice where to get that great local dish you want to try, or the best lodging.

Taxis are all around but you should negotiate a price before accepting the driver because they want to charge you a much higher rate than needed.
